The Haitian band Tabou Combo started in 1968 in Petion-Ville, by Albert Chancy and Herman Nau and some friends

The name Tabou Combo was adopted in 1969. During the 1970s, Tabou Combo was one of the island's leading bands.

The band was known for its relentless and high-energy style of Compas dance beat. In 1974, Tabou Combocaptured Europe's attention with its million selling hit single NEW YORK CITY. Wi the the release of their music album AUX ANTIILLES in 1989 , the group topped European and Caribbean charts for six consecutive weeks.

The band dissolved for a period of time and its members drifted to the United States.
