In 1987, he met Eddy Saint-Vil and Alex Abellard in an audition, and joined their group Zin. They released their first album, O Pa, in 1988 and their bond still going strong after 20 years. The trio (Zin's keyboardist and leader Alex Abellard, guitarist-songwriter Eddy St. Vil and Cavé himself) along with Zin's 11 band members remained very popular and jointly performed till 2003 with sweet ballads and traditional Haitian Kompa grooves mixed with the sound of reggae, blues, rhythm and Zouk. The sweet and beautiful voice of Alan Cave, often considered by many as seductive, added a new dimension to the success of the band. Cavé is very successful on a solo career and released 3 solo albums. He is known mainly for a variety of different music styles but best known for Kompa and Zouk.

He has two brothers and two sisters, Wladimir Cave, Syto Cave Jr. (formerly of Lakol), Sereine Leon Gaelle and Auguste. He married Myrtho Polo in 2000 and they have a 7 year old son. In an interview, he once said, he wants to be remembered more as a writer and composer than a singer, because he is more passionate about writing lyrics. His formula behind success is quite simple-- discipline with a combination of hard work and commitment.
